TITLE - Protein function prediction with INGA in the Critical Assessment of Function Annotation (CAFA) era

SPEAKERS - Damiano Piovesan, Marco Necci and Silvio CE Tosatto
ABSTRACT - Protein function prediction is an extremely difficult problem due to the number of the functional descriptors and the limitations of the sequence-structure-function paradigm. The Critical Assessment of
Function Annotation (CAFA) is a community experiment aiming to provide a fair benchmark to evaluate function predictors and guide scientific community users. Here we present INGA, a method that exploits
evolutionary information, domain architecture, intrinsic disorder and protein-protein interactions to predict Gene Ontology terms. INGA has been consistently ranked among the top ten methods in the last two
CAFA editions and best for Arabidopsis thaliana predictions. The new version of INGA is fast and can process an entire genome in minutes.
